ClinicAI is independently researched and edited. We are not clinicians, and nothing here is medical advice — we compare practice software so you can decide. How we evaluate tools.
This is an independent editorial comparison based on vendor documentation, pricing, and security pages — not on reviews collected on this site. We have not tested note accuracy; trial any shortlist on your own visit types before paying. See our methodology.

Our Recommendation
For most solo and small-group practices, Freed AI (from $39/month) or Heidi Health (free tier; paid from $89/month) delivers the best value. Move to mid-range options like Nabla (now quote-only pricing) only if your encounter complexity demands it. Premium tools ($300+/month) are justified mainly for mid-size groups or quality-based contract practices.

Take the 30-second quizThe Pricing Problem: Vendors Make This Harder Than It Needs to Be
Try to find clear pricing for AI scribes online. You will discover that half the vendors hide their prices behind "contact sales" forms, and the other half advertise starting prices that do not include the features you actually need. This article cuts through the noise and tells you what each tool actually costs for a small practice.
We compiled pricing data from vendor websites and other public sources as of February 2026 (Abridge re-checked 2026-06-12). Prices are per provider per month unless noted otherwise.
Pricing Tier Overview
AI scribes for small practices fall into four pricing tiers:
Budget tier (entry prices $0-$49/month; DeepCura runs higher on its top tiers, and Tali is now CAD-priced — roughly CA$50-CA$100/month paid): Heidi Health, Freed AI, Tali AI, DeepCura AI, Chartnote. These tools are designed for solo and small-group practices and prioritize affordability over advanced features.
Mid-range (roughly $299-$399/month published; Nabla is now quote-only): Nabla, Suki AI. These tools add features like pre-charting or voice command interfaces that justify the higher price.
Upper mid-range ($350-$500/month): DeepScribe. Specialty-specific AI models justify the premium for practices in supported specialties.
Premium / enterprise ($300-$700+/month, or undisclosed): Microsoft Dragon Copilot, Augmedix, and Abridge — which publishes no pricing at all; it is sold through enterprise quotes (checked 2026-06-12). Enterprise-grade tools with the deepest EHR integrations, priced — or contracted — beyond what most solo practitioners want to take on.
Detailed Pricing Breakdown
Budget Tier
Heidi Health: Free to $99/month Heidi offers a free tier with usage limits — enough for a solo practitioner to evaluate the tool with real patients for an extended period before paying. Paid plans start at $89/month. For budget-focused solo practices, Heidi offers the lowest barrier to entry.
Freed AI: $39-$119/month Freed's pricing has come down significantly over the past year as competition has intensified. The $39/month entry plan covers core ambient documentation; higher tiers (up to $119/month) add longer encounter support and more template options. For a solo practice, the mid tier is typically the sweet spot.
Tali AI: free tier, then CAD-denominated paid plans Canadian-made and priced competitively. Tali includes a free tier and clinical decision support features that most competitors charge extra for. Its pricing was restructured and is now CAD-denominated (re-checked 2026-08-07): paid Starter/Pro/Premium plans sit roughly in the CA$50-CA$100/month band — check the vendor's page for current US-dollar equivalents.
Chartnote: Free to $100/month The simplest tool on this list. Chartnote offers a free tier with limited usage and paid plans up to $100/month. Its AI scribe records the patient-provider conversation on a record-then-transcribe workflow — you press record during the visit and convert the audio to a note afterward — and it bundles standalone dictation and smart-text templates. If you want a clinician-initiated recording workflow rather than real-time ambient drafting, Chartnote is a straightforward alternative (re-checked against chartnote.com 2026-06-12).
DeepCura AI: $49-$399/month A newer entrant focused on outpatient primary care. Entry pricing is low, though the range runs wide across tiers, and the product is less mature than Freed or Heidi. Worth trying if you are in primary care and want an alternative to the market leaders.
Mid-Range Tier
Nabla: pricing no longer published The price premium over Freed buys you pre-charting, patient messaging assistance, and more sophisticated encounter documentation. For internists and psychiatrists dealing with complex encounters, those additions target exactly that complexity — but we have not tested note quality for any tool on this list, so let a trial on your own encounters decide whether the premium is justified.
DeepScribe: $350-$500/month DeepScribe's pricing reflects its specialty-specific approach. The base plan covers general documentation, while higher tiers activate specialty-specific AI models (cardiology, dermatology, orthopedics, etc.) — a specialization claim we have not tested. If you are a specialist, budget for the higher tier.
Suki AI: $299-$399/month Suki's price point is at the top of mid-range, and what it buys is a voice-driven interface — dictate, edit, and navigate by voice. If voice commands are how you want to interact with your scribe, Suki is the tool most committed to that model. The lack of a self-serve free trial makes it harder to evaluate before committing.
Premium Tier
Abridge: pricing not publicly disclosed Abridge stakes its premium positioning on clinical accuracy and backs it with a linked evidence feature that lets you trace any note content back to the exact moment in the encounter — we have not tested its accuracy claims ourselves. There is no public pricing page; abridge.com routes every inquiry to an enterprise sales contact, so you get a quote rather than a listed price (checked 2026-06-12). That procurement model is easiest to justify where documentation accuracy has direct financial implications (quality-based contracts, risk adjustment). No free trial.
Microsoft Dragon Copilot (formerly DAX Copilot): $369-$599/month The most expensive option and the one with the deepest EHR integration, particularly on Epic. Dragon Copilot is overkill for most small practices but is the natural choice for mid-size groups on Epic that want native-depth integration. Microsoft's backing also makes long-term product continuity less of a gamble than with venture-stage vendors.
Augmedix: $300-$700/month Augmedix transitioned from a human scribe service to AI, and it pitches that heritage as producing the most natural-sounding notes of any tool — a claim we have not tested. The premium pricing reflects its concierge-service roots. Best for physicians who care deeply about note quality and tone, and can afford to pay for it.
Hidden Costs to Watch For
Beyond the monthly subscription, watch for:
- Implementation fees: Some tools charge $500-$2,000 for setup and training. Most budget-tier tools do not.
- Per-encounter limits: Some plans cap monthly encounters. Exceeding the cap incurs per-note charges of $1-$3.
- Annual commitment discounts: Some tools offer a discount for paying annually instead of monthly. The monthly prices listed above are monthly billing rates — ask each vendor whether an annual plan lowers the rate.
- EHR integration add-ons: A few tools charge extra for specific EHR integrations. Ask before committing.
The ROI Question
Run your own math rather than trusting a vendor's ROI calculator: take your actual daily documentation hours and your billable rate. For many physicians that opportunity cost runs to hundreds of dollars a day — and if an AI scribe recovers even half of it, the subscription covers itself at every tier on this list.
The better question is not "can I afford an AI scribe?" but "which price tier delivers the right balance of quality and cost for my practice?"
Our Recommendation by Budget
Under $100/month: Freed AI (from $39/month) or Heidi Health (free tier; paid from $89/month). Both target solo primary care practices. Freed has the broader EHR integration list; Heidi has the free tier and the simpler setup.
Mid-range without a published price: Nabla (pricing now quote-only) is the strongest choice for complex encounters if the quote lands in your budget.
$300-$500/month: DeepScribe ($350-$500) is the best choice for specialists. Suki ($299-$399) for voice-driven workflows.
$250+/month or enterprise quotes: Only justified for mid-size groups or practices where documentation accuracy has direct financial implications. Abridge (quote-only pricing) for its linked-evidence traceability, Dragon Copilot for the deepest Epic integration.
